Events Proved Me Wrong is an illustrated zine created in response to a track by Kelpe.
The zine
I imagined a boy who dreams about travelling to another planet.
He spends years thinking about what might be there, especially the strange and beautiful creatures he hopes to meet. He grows older, but the idea stays with him, and eventually he makes the journey. When he finally arrives, he finds nothing but a group of children waiting, exactly like how he was before
The place he had imagined for so long is now being seen by a completely different version of himself.
EVENTS/PROVED/ME/WRONG
I used the four words of the title to divide the zine into four parts.
Events introduces the world and its energy. Proved is filled with the creatures he imagines finding there. Me follows him as he grows older. Wrong is the moment he finally arrives and meets the children.
The colours and compositions change with the music, so the zine gets more crowded and restless as the track moves forward.
ARRIVAL
For me, the ending is about how much can change while we are busy looking ahead.
He reaches the place he always wanted to see, carrying all the years it took him to get there. What waits for him brings him back to the child who first imagined the journey.
